We decided to hijack our blog back from Heather's Dad. Here's an update about us and our trip...
We exhausted ourselves booking it across the state of South Dakota so when we got to Rapid City we decided that it was time to regroup. We'd been having more and more trouble with climbing hills and realized it would probably be next to impossible using our bike as is to get over the mountains. We explored getting a smaller gear on the front but they didn't make one to fit. Another option was replacing our whole crank setup to get smaller gears, but that would eliminate the independent pedaling system.
We'd heard about flatter terrain but after almost two months out from our start date we realized the entire trip out to the coast and back probably wouldn't be done before we were stuck in a snow drift on the upper peninsula of Michigan. Plus to top it all off... we felt like we were back grinding out a 40 hour week instead of enjoying a vacation.
Time for a break. We have friends in Lewistown, Montana, who we wanted to see but weren't sure that we'd be able to ride to see them. Instead we rented a car from Rapid City to haul the bike to our friends and then since it wasn't that much more to keep the car for a week we decided to head to Yellowstone. Neither of us had been there before and we weren't ready to leave the area without getting a visit.
And that's what we've done. We spent a few days tooling around Yellowstone and are currently back in Montana trying to relax and decide what to do next. We thought about riding out to Oregon and catching a train back. But we're also wanting to ride back to where we started. We're not sure but for now we're just going to take it easy and have a great visit with our friends.
More to come...
